Course 13
Contracts and disputes
How the legal team uses ComplianceOS to upload contracts and check what the analysis read from them, correct the key details and link the counterparty to its vendor record, read the clause findings and track obligations, stay ahead of renewals, assign and record reviews, act on several contracts at once, compare a contract with standard terms, link amendments, draft a new contract with the AI agent and have it approved, and then record, evidence, escalate and resolve a dispute with a tax or regulatory authority and set its deadline reminders. The closing lessons show, on the live screens, how contracts and disputes feed the vendor directory, sanctions screening, the risk register, the compliance calendar, the Evidence Vault, notifications and My Actions.
Who it is for: Legal team, with lessons for the Compliance officer who reviews and approves, the administrator who manages access, and view-only users such as auditors

Start with lesson 1Lessons
- 1Upload a contract for analysisThis lesson is for the legal team. You will open the Contracts screen, learn what its numbers and tabs mean while it is still empty, and upload a signed contract so that ComplianceOS reads it for you.4 min
- 2Read a contract's pageThis lesson is for the legal team. You will find an analysed contract in the list, open its page, and read what the analysis says about it: the status tags, the key details, the two summaries, the expiry warning, the risk dimensions and the recommendations.6 min
- 3Check what was read from the contractThis lesson is for the legal team. You will go through the Extraction tab panel by panel, open the full list of extracted fields, show only the ones the analysis was unsure about, and correct one of them.7 min
- 4Read the clause findingsThis lesson is for the legal team. You will open the Compliance Checks tab and read each clause finding: what was tested, the result, the law it refers to, and the recommended change.5 min
- 5Edit the key details and link the vendorThis lesson is for the legal team. You will open Edit key details, go through every field in the form, correct the title and a notice period, and link the counterparty to its record in the vendor directory that Contracts shares with Tax and Data Protection.8 min
- 6Track the obligations in a contractThis lesson is for the legal team. You will open Deep Analysis, read the list of obligations the contract places on each party, mark one as done, re-open one, and run the AI extraction again.5 min
- 7Upload several contracts at onceThis lesson is for the legal team. You will upload three contracts in one go, watch them join the list while they are processed, and see what happens when a file that is already on record is uploaded a second time.4 min
- 8Find, filter, sort and export contractsThis lesson is for the legal team. You will use every control above the contracts list: the search box, the five filters, the Assigned to me button, the year and date ranges, the column sorting, and the export to a spreadsheet file.8 min
- 9Stay ahead of renewals and expiryThis lesson is for the legal team. You will read every expiry warning on the Contracts screen, sort the list by expiry date, check a contract's renewal terms, and record that a contract has ended by changing its lifecycle status.7 min
- 10Assign a review and record your ownThis lesson is for the legal team. The analysis marks the contracts that a person should review. You will assign one review to a colleague from the list, take one yourself, and record your review with notes on the contract's Review tab.7 min
- 11Act on several contracts at onceThis lesson is for the legal team. You will tick contracts in the list and use each button on the bar that appears: export the selection as a spreadsheet file or as a data file, flag contracts for review, approve them, and send a contract for analysis again.6 min
- 12Complete a contract review assigned to youThis lesson is for anyone who is asked to review a contract. You are Mariam Aziz, the Compliance officer. Legal counsel has uploaded a new shop cleaning and maintenance agreement and assigned its review to you. You will find it in My Actions, open it, and record your review.5 min
- 13Compare a contract with your standard termsThis lesson is for the legal team. You will write down your company's standard terms as a template of clauses, then compare a contract with it to see which clauses are missing or have been changed.8 min
- 14Link an amendment to its contractThis lesson is for the legal team. A contract and its amendments are uploaded as separate files. You will link an amendment to the agreement it changes, and read the chain of versions that results.5 min
- 15Read the portfolio analyticsThis lesson is for the legal team and for managers who want the overall picture. You will open the Analytics tab and read each figure and chart: the totals, the risk distribution, the mix of contract types, the expiry timeline and the review backlog.4 min
- 16Look up standard clauses in the UAE Clause LibraryThis lesson is for the legal team. You will open the UAE Clause Library on the Draft a Contract tab, choose a contract type, and read a standard clause: whether it is required, its wording, the risk if it is missing and the law it rests on.4 min
- 17Ask the drafting agent for a new contractThis lesson is for the legal team. You will fill in every field of the Draft a Contract form, describing a consulting engagement, and start the AI drafting agent. The agent takes a few minutes, so the next lesson picks up when the draft is ready.6 min
- 18Review and revise an AI draftThis lesson is for the legal team. You will open the draft the agent produced, read each part of the review window, ask the agent to revise one clause, export the draft to Word, and see why you cannot approve your own draft.8 min
- 19Approve a draft and turn it into a contractThis lesson is for the person who approves contract drafts. You are Mariam Aziz, the Compliance officer. Legal counsel has prepared a draft consulting agreement. You will open it, approve it with a comment, and finalise it into a live contract.5 min
- 20See who has access, and delete a contractThis lesson is for administrators. You are Layla Hassan. You will open the Access tab of the Contracts screen to see who may view, create, edit and approve contracts and contract drafts, read the approval policy for drafts, and then delete a file that was uploaded to Contracts by mistake.6 min
- 21Record a dispute with an authorityThis lesson is for the legal and tax teams. You will open the Tax and regulatory disputes screen, learn what it shows while it is still empty, and record a dispute against a late payment penalty, filling in every field of the form.7 min
- 22Add evidence, start the review and correct the detailsThis lesson is for the legal and tax teams. You will open a dispute to read its full record, attach a document as evidence, move the dispute to Under Review, correct its amount and references, and use the status list to filter the table.8 min
- 23Escalate a dispute to the next levelThis lesson is for the legal and tax teams. You will escalate a dispute, see how the level, the phase and the deadline change, read the escalation history, and see why a small tax dispute cannot be taken to the Tax Disputes Resolution Committee while a large one can.8 min
- 24Record the outcome, read the insights and exportThis lesson is for the legal and tax teams. The authority has cancelled the penalty of 12,000 dirhams that was escalated in lesson 23. You will record that outcome, see how the figures and the track record change, open the Insights panel, and export the disputes to a spreadsheet file.7 min
- 25Set the dispute deadline remindersThis lesson is for the legal and tax teams. You will go through the Deadline reminders settings at the foot of the disputes screen: switch reminders on or off, choose how many days before a deadline reminders go out, and choose who receives them and who is alerted when a deadline is missed.6 min
- 26What a read-only user seesThis lesson is for auditors and anyone else with view-only access. You are Daniel Brooks, the auditor. You will open Contracts and Tax and regulatory disputes and see what you can read and export, and which controls are missing or greyed out because you may not change anything.6 min
- 27What you see without accessThis lesson is for anyone who follows a link to a contract or a dispute and cannot open it. You are Aisha Farouk, an employee with self-service access only. You will see what ComplianceOS shows when your role does not include Contracts or Disputes, and whom to ask for access.2 min
- 28How this connects: contracts and the rest of ComplianceOSThis lesson is for the Compliance officer and for anyone who wants to see where contract information goes. You are Mariam Aziz. Starting from one contract, you will follow it into the vendor register, sanctions screening, the Risk Register, the Compliance Calendar, the Evidence Vault and your notifications.8 min
- 29How this connects: dispute deadlines, alerts and the calendarThis lesson is for the Compliance officer and for managers who are told about escalated disputes. You are Mariam Aziz. You will follow a dispute from the disputes screen to your notifications, the Compliance Calendar and the Risk Register.5 min
How this connects to the rest of ComplianceOS
Vendor directory (Data Protection vendor risk, and Tax vendors)
In Edit key details, a contract's counterparty is linked to its record in the one vendor directory that Data Protection and Tax also use. The link shows on the contract. Vendors are added in those modules, not in Contracts.
Sanctions screening (AML/CFT)
When a contract is analysed, or a draft is written, the parties are screened against the sanctions lists automatically. Each screening appears under AML/CFT, Screening, with its result.
Risk register
Sync Modules on the Risk Register creates a risk for every active contract scored high or critical, one for each failed contract check (titled Contract check failed, with the check and the contract), and one for each running dispute with an amount at stake, with Disputes as the source.
Compliance calendar
Sync Deadlines on the calendar adds a Contract Expiry entry for every contract with an expiry date. Each dispute's phase deadline is added to the calendar as soon as the dispute is filed or escalated, and is marked completed when the dispute is resolved.
Evidence Vault
When a contract's analysis completes, a sealed record of it is stored in the Evidence Vault. The Evidence Vault button on the contract opens it, for Legal counsel too.
My Actions and notifications
Assigning a contract review notifies the reviewer and puts the review in their My Actions list until it is submitted. A high-risk contract raises a notification, and escalating a dispute notifies the people responsible for the new level.
Access control and approvals
The Access tab on Contracts shows who holds each right and the approval policy for contract drafts. A draft waiting for approval appears in the approver's Approvals inbox and the author's My requests; someone other than its author must approve it before it can be finalised into a contract.
