Course 21
The AI team
ComplianceOS has a team of AI agents, each with a name and a job: Zayed, the compliance lead, plans the work; Hind prepares VAT; Majid handles corporate tax; Nasser, financial crime; Samira, data protection; and others. They are AI agents, not people. Each one works through ComplianceOS with its own key and only the permissions it was given, on the entities it has been let onto. They prepare work and ask a person whenever a decision is needed: a plan runs only after a person approves it, a checkpoint waits for the person it belongs to, and a return the agents prepare is signed off and filed by a person. The course follows the tax manager of Meridian Souq Trading LLC through the third-quarter VAT return, from a first question to the agents to the draft return that waits for her sign-off, and then shows the administrator's side: letting an agent onto an entity, the agents' names and style, their schedules, standing guidance, who sees the conversations, and the monthly AI budget. Answers from the agents vary from one run to the next; the course says what to look for rather than the exact words.
Who it is for: Everyone who works with the AI agents: the Tax manager, who asks them questions, gives them work and checks what they prepare; the Finance manager, who completes a step of a plan; the Compliance officer, who asks for an agent to be let onto an entity; and the Organisation administrator, who approves that access and sets the agents' names, schedules, guidance, privacy and budget

The interactive version of this course is on its way. Until then, the written lessons below cover every step.
Start with lesson 1Lessons
- 1Meet your AI teamThis lesson is for everyone who will work with the AI team, and is shown by the organisation administrator. The AI team is a set of AI agents, each with a name and a job, such as Hind, the VAT preparer, or Zayed, the compliance lead. They are not people: they work through ComplianceOS with only the permissions they were given, they prepare work, and a person always checks and approves it. You will open the Team page, read an agent's card, filter the team by what it is doing, and find the five pages of the AI team area.5 min
- 2Ask one agent a questionThis lesson is for the tax manager. When you want one agent's view, ask that agent directly. You will open a chat with Hind, the VAT preparer, ask how far the third-quarter VAT return has got, wait for Hind's answer and check it against Tax Intelligence. Hind is an AI agent: it reads the records with only the permissions it was given, and a question changes nothing.5 min
- 3Ask the whole teamThis lesson is for the tax manager. When you don't know which agent to ask, ask the whole team. Your message goes to Zayed, the compliance lead, an AI agent who answers a question himself or, for a piece of work, draws up a plan and gives each step to the right agent. You will ask the team what is due in the next 30 days, read Zayed's answer, and see how to address one agent from the same box with @.5 min
- 4Give the team a task and approve the planThis lesson is for the tax manager, and starts the third-quarter VAT return that the next lessons follow to the end. A piece of work is a task for the whole team: Zayed, the compliance lead, draws up a plan, gives each step to an agent or to a person, and nothing runs until you approve it. You will give the team the task, read the plan, ask for a change, and approve the revised plan.7 min
- 5Give a plan step to a colleagueThis lesson is for the tax manager, and continues lesson 4. The approved plan starts with a checkpoint for the finance manager: confirm that every third-quarter supplier bill has been entered. Checkpoints belong to the person who asked for the work until they give them to someone. You will give that step to the finance manager, Rashid Karim, by his e-mail address, so that he sees the conversation and can complete the step himself.4 min
- 6Complete a step you were givenThis lesson is for the finance manager. The tax manager gave you one step of her plan for the third-quarter VAT return: confirm that every supplier bill of the quarter has been entered. You will find the step under Needs you, open the conversation it belongs to, add a note for the agents, and mark the step done, so that Hind, the VAT preparer, can start.4 min
- 7Follow the workThis lesson is for the tax manager, and continues lesson 4: the plan for the third-quarter VAT return is approved and Hind is working on it. You will follow the work from three places: Hind's card on the Team page, the Work page with its work in progress, open plans and goals, and a goal's details, where every step the agent took is recorded.6 min
- 8Answer the agent: give a go-aheadThis lesson is for the tax manager. An agent asks before it changes a record that matters: it sends a go-ahead, a request for your permission to make one change. Go-aheads and questions go to the person who asked for the work, in the conversation and under Needs you. You will ask Hind to mark a software subscription bought from the US for the reverse charge, read Hind's go-ahead, approve it, and check Hind's answer.6 min
- 9Do your checkpoint: approve the classificationsThis lesson is for the tax manager, and continues the third-quarter VAT return. Hind has classified the quarter, but the agents never approve their own suggestions: the plan now waits at your checkpoint, approving the review queue. You will find the checkpoint, approve the AI classifications in the Sign-off cockpit as their reviewer, and mark your step done so that Hind can draft the return.6 min
- 10Check the agent's work before you sign offThis lesson is for the tax manager, and continues the third-quarter VAT return. Hind has computed the draft return, but could not finish its step: the plan asked it to submit the return for review, which an agent cannot do, and it found points that need your decision first. A handover is a report: what the agent did, what is still open, and what it needs from a person. You will read Hind's handover in the conversation and in the goal's details, open the draft return in Tax Intelligence, and decide what must be checked before anyone signs off. The final checkpoint, signing off and filing, is always yours.7 min
- 11When an agent isn't enabledThis lesson is for the compliance officer. An agent works on an entity only after it has been let onto that entity, with its own key and only the permissions a person approved. Here Nasser, the financial crime agent, has not been let onto Meridian Souq Trading LLC. You will address a question to Nasser, read the notice that says Nasser isn't enabled, send the question anyway so that it waits, and request access, which goes to the Approvals inbox.5 min
- 12Let an agent onto an entityThis lesson is for the person who administers access, here the organisation administrator. The compliance officer has asked for Nasser, the financial crime agent, to be let onto Meridian Souq Trading LLC. You will open the request in the Approvals inbox, read exactly what Nasser's key would be allowed to do on the entity, approve it, and check that Nasser can now reach the entity, so that the question that was waiting goes to Nasser.5 min
- 13The waiting question is answeredThis lesson is for the compliance officer, and closes lessons 9 and 10. Once access was approved, the question that was waiting went to Nasser by itself. You will open the conversation with Nasser, see the note that Nasser is now enabled, read the answer, and check it against the customer due diligence records in the AML module.3 min
- 14Name and style your agentsThis lesson is for the organisation administrator. Each agent has a persona: the name people see, an Arabic name, a working style, the language it writes to people in, and a colour. You will change how Hind, the VAT preparer, writes, see the change in the preview, save it, and see what Reset to default would do. A persona changes how an agent appears and writes. It never changes what the agent is allowed to do, and the AI label cannot be turned off.5 min
- 15Automatic work: schedulesThis lesson is for the organisation administrator. Besides answering when asked, an agent can start work on a schedule: Zayed plans the coming weeks every Monday, Hind checks every month whether a VAT return is due, and Majid starts the corporate tax return once a year. Scheduled work follows the same rules as any other: the agent prepares, and a person approves. You will read the schedules of Meridian Souq Trading LLC, see the next run on an agent's card, and pause and resume a schedule.4 min
- 16Teach the agents: guidance and lessonsThis lesson is for the person who manages the agents, here the compliance officer. Agents learn in two ways. You can give them a standing instruction, which they follow from their next piece of work until someone retires it. And an agent can propose a lesson it learned from its work, which applies only after a person confirms it. You will add a standing instruction for Hind about imported services, the point the third-quarter VAT work brought up, and see where the agents' proposed lessons wait for you.5 min
- 17Who sees your conversations with the agentsThis lesson is for the organisation administrator. By default a conversation with the agents is private: only the person who asked sees it, with anyone they give a step of a plan to. An organisation can instead share conversations with everyone on the entity who can view its compliance tasks. You will find the setting, see what each choice means, switch it and see the note on the Chat page change, and put it back to private.4 min
- 18The AI budget and cost limitsThis lesson is for the organisation administrator. Every answer and every piece of work by the agents uses AI, and AI has a cost. Two controls keep it in hand: a monthly AI budget for the whole team, and a cost limit for each piece of work an agent does. You will read this month's spend against the budget, see the spend by agent, change the budget and its warning level, and read the cost limits per agent. The amounts are estimates from the Agent Platform; your AI provider's invoice is the authority.5 min
- 19Journey: the quarter-end VAT return with the AI teamThis lesson is for the tax manager, and closes the third-quarter VAT journey of lessons 4 to 8. You will walk back through the whole record: the task and the plan you approved, the step the finance manager did, your own checkpoint, the agents' work, Hind's handover with what is left before filing, and where the plan stands. Everything the agents did is in this record, and the last step, signing off and filing, is still yours.6 min
How this connects to the rest of ComplianceOS
Tax Intelligence and the Sign-off cockpit
When Hind classifies a quarter, each line appears in Tax Intelligence as an AI suggestion awaiting review. A person with the Tax, Approve permission approves them, for example in the Sign-off cockpit, before the return is prepared. The agents never approve their own suggestions.
VAT returns and the Filing Tracker
Hind computes the draft VAT return for a period and hands it over; its deadline then appears in the Filing Tracker. The tax manager reviews the draft on the VAT Return tab, settles anything open, submits and locks it, and marks her checkpoint done. Agents cannot file or sign off.
My Actions and Needs you
An agent's question goes to the person who asked for the work. It appears in the conversation, under AI team, Needs you, and in My Actions; the answer goes straight back to the agent, which carries on.
Approvals and Access control
An agent works on an entity only after it has been let on. Asking for that from the chat sends an agent access request to the Approvals inbox; once a person who administers access approves it, the waiting message goes to the agent. Agent keys are managed under Settings, Access control, AI agents.
Work and the goal record
Every step an agent takes on is a goal on the Work page, with its objective, every call it made in ComplianceOS, its handover and, where it stopped early, the reason. The plan in the conversation shows each step's result, and the person's own decisions (plan approved, step given, step done) are kept there too.
Meridian Souq Group is a fictional company used throughout these lessons. Every person, record and figure shown is invented for training.
